Sometimes it may be helpful to turn on diagnostic logging in Notate, particularly if submitting a defect report in the application that needs to be resolved. Logging monitors what is going on with the application and saves the report to a note which then can be analyzed or sent to Notate support.
Keep logging off except while you are diagnosing a problem. Logging uses processing power and takes up storage on the device. Once you have sent the log, turn it off again.
Notate for iOS
1.) To send the logs, first the IT administrator must make sure that logging is permitted from Notate’s application policies on the MDM server.
2.) Next, within the Notate app go to the settings screen and select the general tab and select “Turn on Logging”. Leave the app and restart.
3.) Once you have recreated the problem that you are reporting, send us the log. From the settings screen press “Send Feedback” on the left hand side in order to send us the logs.
Notate for Android, Windows, and Mac
You may enable logging in Notate for Windows when the application is first run prior to attempting a login. After the application is already running, you may enable logging by following these steps:
-
Go to the settings screen and select general settings, and “Turn on logging”.
-
If the problem you are reporting is connecting/syncing with Exchange, go ahead and test the connection: From the settings screen, select “Connection Test” and “Test Connection”. Next, from the setting screen, select “Synchronization” and “Reconnect”.
-
Once you have recreated the issue you are reporting, from the settings screen, simply click “Send Feedback” at the bottom left of the screen.
On Windows platforms, log files may also be located on the machine in the following directory
C:\Users\<USER_NAME>\AppData\Local\ShaferSystems\Notate\logs
Notate Desktop (in the browser)
Notate Desktop has no logging setting of its own yet. If our support team asks for diagnostic information, you can save your browser's console log instead. It can include file names, so look it over before you send it if that matters to you.
